INTRODUCTION & MISSION

Picture
Saint Augustine School, Incorporated (SAS), chartered under the statutes of the State of Wisconsin, is an independent and private traditional Roman Catholic School (Grades K4-12) for boys and girls located in Hartford, Wisconsin, minutes from the Basilica of Holy Hill, National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians (Hubertus, WI). SAS is not subject to the ties or limitations of political control.  SAS is seeking accreditation from WRISA (Wisconsin Religious and Independent Association) and obtained pre-accreditation status in August 2018.

Saint Augustine School is an incorporation of dedicated families, who believing that all good things are of God, have joined together to provide the children of our Catholic community with an exceptional classical education that is founded on the truths of Sacred Scripture, Holy Tradition, and the defined doctrines of Holy Mother Church. Common Core is in no way incorporated into the curriculum of the school. The name of Saint Augustine School, Incorporated appears on the IRS list of tax-exempt educational institutes. Contributions to the school are approved deductions.

SAS loves and praises all the traditional practices of the Catholic Faith; the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Divine Office, the Stations of the Cross, the Angelus, the reception of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Son of God on the tongue while kneeling (Pope Benedict XVI stated on 22 May 2009, "We Christians kneel before the Blessed Sacrament because, therein, we know and believe to be the presence of the One True God."), acts of penance and mortification, the veneration of images and relics of the Saints, and Latin in the liturgy.

SAS recognizes its spiritual custodial duty of establishing an authentic Catholic environment within which the souls of its students, cooperating with Divine Assistance to secure their salvation, may grow in holiness and be preserved from the diabolical enticements of Satan. SAS strives to produce the “true Christian … the supernatural man who thinks and acts constantly and consistently in accordance with right reason illumined by the supernatural light of the example and teaching of Christ” (Pope Pius XI, Christian Education of Youth).

PHILOSOPHY OF CURRICULUM

Saint Augustine School, Incorporated seeks to lead its students to understand it is their responsibility to serve as God’s representatives, executing His will in all areas of life. In order to achieve this, they must master the basic academic skills needed in a civilized society and if they are to avail themselves of the cultural treasure of the past and present, their minds must be formed in the required academic disciplines.

The grade school curriculum stresses Bible and Catechism memorization, English grammar, diagramming of sentences, vocabulary from Greek and Latin roots, reading comprehension, the lives of the Saints, penmanship, music, the fundamentals of mathematics, and basic facts of history, science and geography. Furthermore, beginning in grade six, students will be introduced to Latin, the language of Holy Mother Church. Physical and health education are incorporated into the curriculum throughout primary and secondary levels, so that children may learn to be proper stewards of their bodies as gifts from God and vehicles to serve Him. In addition to the standard disciplines of science, mathematics, and history, our high school offers challenging courses in theology, philosophy, literature, and Latin in order to transmit the sacred truths of Holy Mother Church. In addition to the standard disciplines of science, mathematics, and history, our high school offers challenging courses in theology, philosophy, literature, and Latin. In order to transmit the sacred truths of Holy Mother Church, SAS students will utilize sound texts and resources including the Catechism of the Council of Trent, the Douay-Rheims Bible, passages from the Summa Theologica of Saint Thomas Aquinas, papal encyclicals, the writings of the saints, Doctors of the Church and Patristic Fathers.

There will be neither time nor resources spent on ‘life-adjustment’ courses, or situation ethics, group dynamics, sociology, sensitivity training or other such forms of behavior modification. Common Core is not and will not be incorporated into the SAS curriculum. The important responsibility of educating the child in matters of human sexuality, other than biological facts, will be left entirely to the parents, who maintain the right.

Finally, let it be known that the school in no way means to be judged simply by its noble intentions with regard to both religious and academic subjects. On the contrary, it expects and desires to be judged by its results. The administration and community of Saint Augustine School believes that this educational enterprise will flourish in every way; that the pupils will be better formed and informed; that a higher level of culture will be transmitted with less grief, less waste of time, and far less cost than in existing school systems

HISTORY & DEMOGRAPHICS

The history of St. Augustine School begins nearly 25 years ago when the families of children who were attending Neosho Country Christian School, a private parent operated school, begun in 1979 in Neosho, WI at a rented facility, felt called to change the focus of that parent operated school into a traditional Catholic centered education.
In early winter 1994, the Friess Lake School District in Washington County, Wisconsin continued to consolidate their district by listing for sale the Saint Augustine property which had housed the kindergarten through fourth grade district students for many years. This building at 1810 Hwy CC had been occupied for a number of years and was deteriorating inside and out.
The deed showed the land had been originally donated by local residents specifically for school purposes. The building in 1994 consisted of the original one-room school house with a basement beneath, which was divided into a furnace room, a storage area and a classroom. An addition was also part of the school property which contained four classrooms, two restrooms, a small office and two wide hallways with open lockers.
After much prayer and planning, the Board Members of Neosho Country Christian School voted to put in an offer to purchase the St. Augustine property. The offer was accepted at the Friess Lake School District meeting on Tuesday April 12, 1994 for a bid of $40,000. In thanksgiving to St. Augustine of Hippo, the Board decided to rename Neosho Country Christian School, St. Augustine School, and formalize this new entity as a traditional Catholic school, run by a parent board. The new By-Laws were codified and voted on by the founding families at the parent board meeting held on Tuesday May 17, 1994. The sale was legally completed and closed on May 23, 1994.
After a lot of hard work cleaning, painting, refurbishing, and organizing the facility, at a total renovation coast of $113,995, St. Augustine School, Inc. opened for the 1994-1195 school year on Wednesday, September 7, 1994 with grades preschool through eighth grade. Fr. John Rausch presided at the flag raising, the rosary recitation, and the dedication ceremony at 11:00 A.M. that morning, attended by teachers, students, families, and school neighbors.
St. Augustine has been in continuous operation since that date and can count 25 successful years of educating students in the classical Catholic tradition. Throughout the years the school has continued to grow with the 2019-2020 academic year recording the highest enrollment in the schools history, with a continued growth projected for subsequent years.

Statement of Faith

We believe in One God Who is Triune; God the Father created and upholds the universe; God the Son, Christ Jesus, Who, having become incarnate, entered into the temporal world of fallen man to die and redeem man from eternal perdition; God the Holy Ghost protects and preserves inviolate the Church’s Deposit of Faith and dwells within the souls of every man in the state of sanctifying grace.

We believe
the Bible is the inspired and inerrant authoritative Word of God and we cherish and contemplate the sacred truths found therein.

We believe in the Divinity and the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through the spilling of His most Precious Blood and ignominious Crucifixion on the Cross, in His bodily Resurrection, in His descent into Limbo to rescue the Justified of the Old Covenant, in His glorious Ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to power and glory. We recognize the universal Reign of Christ the King.

We believe that Mary, the Mother of God, was conceived immaculately, free from the stain of Original Sin.  Moreover, we believe the Blessed Virgin Mary possessed the special role of co-redemptrix in God’s redemptive plan.  She is mediatrix of all graces, mother of the Church, the spiritual advocate of mankind, and the queen of Heaven and Earth.

We believe that in order for lost and sinful man to obtain salvation, it is necessary that he receive the Sacrament of Baptism, belong to the Holy Catholic Church, and die in a state of Sanctifying Grace.

We firmly believe and profess that the Catholic Church is the One, True Church founded by the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, Our Lord Jesus Christ.  We believe that Christ instituted the seven Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Holy Matrimony, and Extreme Unction to help mankind become members of the Church Triumphant in order to achieve eternal salvation.  We believe that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the re-presentation of the redemptive Passion and Death of Christ Jesus on Calvary.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the damned, of the saved to everlasting blessedness and the Beatific Vision in Heaven, of the damned to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment in Hell.

We believe that, “We are saved by grace through faith”, and that “Faith without works is dead” (Ephesians 2:8-9 and James 2:17).
We profess the Catholic Faith in its totality, as it was always taught and transmitted by the Catholic Church, by the vicars of Christ, the Sacred Dogmatic Councils without excluding a single article of the rich treasures found within the Deposit of Faith.

We believe that human life commences at the moment of conception. We believe that from the moment of conception to the last moment of natural life all human life is sacred and each person is a unique, precious, and unrepeatable gift from God. Therefore, we abhor and denounce the slaughter of the unborn, infanticide, euthanasia, and human cloning in the United States and throughout the world.

We believe a genuine Catholic education is the process by which our children are led to see the world as God’s masterful handiwork.  Such a process includes the development and expression of the student’s creative, intellectual, physical and social gifts so he, a young member of the Church Militant, may prepare himself for a role in life that best serves Almighty God.  In addition, we believe Catholic teachers are called to guide students into a deeper understanding and appreciation of God, His universe, His Church, His Sacraments, making available to him unique opportunities and challenges to serve Christ our King.  We believe parents must give each child entrusted to them an education in the home, Church, and the school, which is consistent with the Sacred Teachings of the Catholic Faith and essential to the covenantal relationship God has established with His adopted sons and daughters, who have been blessed with the sacred character of Holy Baptism.

Lastly, we believe the Christian Community should establish and support Catholic schools for the children of Christ in order to bring about the twofold effect of the destruction of the rule of the kingdom of Satan and the resurrection of a universal Christendom.
